A number of activities dedicated to the Days of Matei Visniec will be staged in Chisinau under the theme “From Chekhov to Visniec” on March 25-28. In the period, the public will be able to see six plays by the Romanian playwright Matei Visniec, to attend exhibitions and book launches. The event is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, the Theater Union of Moldova(UNITEM), the National Theater Satiricus “Ion Luca Caragiale” and the Chisinau City Hall, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Theater Union of Moldova, the Days of Matei Visniec in Chisinau will be launched at the National Theater Satiricus on March 25, starting at 11am. The same day, an exhibition entitled “Matei Visniec-60” will be opened in the Theater’s hall. There will be launched a dramaturgy book written by Matei Visniec.

A part of the cultural-artistic events will involve the playwright. Thus, Matei Visniec will discuss with his colleagues from Moldova and will have a dialogue with actors and the public. The Days of Matei Visniec will end with the Gala of UNITEM Prizes 2016 at the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” on March 28. In the Gala, Matei Visniec will be handed over an Excellence Award.

Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau Valeriu Matei said Matei Visniec is a talented author with a powerful character, who knows how to manage his talent. “He is the second Romanian playwright after Eugene Ionesco, who asserted himself in the French dramaturgy and theater,” he said.

For his part, UNITEM President and artistic director of the National Theater Satiricus Sandu Grecu appreciated the role and influence of the Romanian-Bucovinean playwright on the Moldovan theater. “The plays of Matei Visniec contributed to educating a new generation of film directors and actors and allowed us to effectively synchronize with the theater movement of Romanian and the European movement in general,” he stated.

Those who want to take part in the events within the Days of Matei Visniec will have free access, except for the theater plays entrance to which is invitation- or ticket-based.
