The Corneliu Coposu Gala will take place in Chisinau on November 10-11, at the Organ Hall, which is a famous historical and cultural building inaugurated in 1901. The winners of the traditional essay contest staged by the Corneliu Coposu Foundation will be awarded at the Gala, IPN reports.

According to Ion-Andrei Gherasim, executive chairman of the Corneliu Coposu Foundation, last year the Gala was held in Cluj, while this year it was moved to Chisinau as they want to be closer to the brothers from Bessarabia. Corneliu Coposu loved a lot Bessarabia and every time, in the most difficult moments, he had a thought for the brothers from the other bank of the Prut.

The proceeds collected each year at the Gala go to charity and this year the gathered funds will be used to renovate the Mereni open-air museum devoted to the victims of the Communist repression so that this is visited by more people.

Ion-Andrei Gherasim noted that the Communist repression in Romania and the Republic of Moldova is the subject chosen this year for essays. The essays can be sent until October 15. A jury led by the prominent Romanian writer Ana Blandiana will decide the winner who will be awarded at the Gala.

The contest is open to students and future master’s degree and doctor’s degree holders. In 2019, the organizers and the jury of the contest unanimously decided to open the competition to students.

The essays must be written in Romanian and must have between five and 40 pages. Details about the eligibility criteria and other aspects are available on the website of the Corneliu Coposu Foundation.

The eighth essay contest is organized bit the Corneliu Coposu Foundation in partnership with the Civic Academy Foundation, the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Cultural Foundation “Memoria”.
