Authorities intend to build a multifunctional stadium, most likely somewhere on Chisinau's outskirts. The issue was discussed at a meeting headed by President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Vlad Filat on Saturday, May 26, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nicolae Timofti said he had called a meeting to learn about the situation in sport and about the possibility of building national sports complex.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat declared that it had been agreed to build a multipurpose stadium and that a feasibility study had been conducted. “In the near future we’ll find the necessary land for the stadium. There will be a committee in charge of implementing this project and all the works will be done under the patronage of the President. This is the right approach. Sport isn’t only physical movement, it’s much more. We have to provide the people with more than show, but with better life conditions through the practice of sports”, he said.
Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu said that the stadium will be designed not only for football and track&field, but for other sports in which Moldova obtained good results as well, such as wrestling and weightlifting. The Minister estimated the cost of the project at several tens of millions of euros. The money will be allotted from the public budget and from foreign funding.
