The responsible institutions of Chisinau and Tiraspol are to “immediately” find solutions to not allow the situation related to the movement of motor vehicles with Moldovan license plates to Ukraine to worsen and eventual difficulties for the citizens, President Igor Dodon stated as a result of a telephone conversation with the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselskii, IPN reports.
“Categorically, the citizens from both sides of the Nistru should not be affected. As a result of the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, all the sensitive subjects and situations will be solved,” Igor Dodon posted on a social networking site.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Alexandru Flenchea also reacted to Tiraspol’s decision to prevent all types of motor vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova from crossing Transnistria’s border with Ukraine through the frontier posts controlled by Tiraspol as of January 24, following the restrictions imposed by Moldova on Transnistrian vehicles. The official said Chisinau’s decision to suspend, on a trial basis, the border crossing regime for vehicles that are not registered according to the national legislation is a temporary measure.
“This will enable us to see how many drivers who travel over the country’s borders do not yet benefit from neutral-design license plates and with who we should work. We analyze, adjust the resources so that all the vehicle owners comply with the legislation and enjoy the freedom of movement,” Alexandru Flenchea wrote on Facebook.
On January 10 this year, Moldova’s Border Police stopped implementing the temporary exception concerning the measures of control of motor vehicles from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. This way, the drivers who want to cross the state border must comply with the law on the registration of particular units of transport.
