The chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol to the Transnistrian settlement process, Cristina Lesnic and Vitaly Ignatiev, signed a new protocol decision in Chisinau on February 15. This defines the mechanism of interaction in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary control. The sides also agreed to stimulate the activity of the working groups and to recreate two subgroups, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic said there were examined the results of the protocols signed last November. Progress was made in the case of three of the five signed protocols. These refer to the reopening of the Bychok – Gura Bicului bridge, the Romanian-language schools and the apostilling of diplomas.
Next week, on February 21, Cristina Lesnic will take part in the meeting of the working group on transport alongside Vitaly Igantiev. Later they will organize a joint meeting with the heads of all the working groups to assess the activity and efficiency of the negotiations in this format.
Speaking about the agreement reached today, the political representative of Tiraspol Vitaly Ignatiev said the sides interacted in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary control earlier too, but did it in a non-systematized way. The signed protocol decision stipulates the cooperation principles. The sides and the European partners want transparent interaction to exist in this area and the safety and quality of products to be ensured.
Vitaly Ignatiev confirmed the intention to stimulate the activity of the working groups so as to obtain more results, including before the visit by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Conflict Settlement Franco Frattini.
