Officials in charge of telecommunications from Chisinau and Tiraspol initiated discussions on the resumption of the retransmission of TV channels from the right bank of the Nistru in Transnistria and of the Transnistrian ones on the right bank.

Stela Nistor, head of the press service of the Ministry of Information and Compunction Technology, has told IPN that the meeting of the working group on telecommunications and postal services centered on the functioning in Transnistria of the MMDS multichannel television networks in the 2500-2690 MHz frequency band, which, in accordance with the international and regional normative documents, is not intended for such networks.

In order to avoid the jamming  by these networks of the fourth generation (4G) mobile communication networks that will be built by authorized companies, according to the license conditions, the Transnistrian side was offered a compromise solution – to gradually exclude the MMDS networks from the given frequency band, during 2-3 years.

Stela Nistor also said that though the technical aspects were coordinated beforehand, the Transnistrian side put forward a series of formal modifications to the discussed document. Thus, it was not possible to sign the document.

At the end of 2012, the retransmission of all the TV channels from the right bank of the Nistru in Transnistria was stopped. The public channel Moldova 1 was banned in the Transnistrian region on December 1, 2012.
