Chisinau, Tiraspol agree to set up joint human rights platform

Chisinau and Tiraspol have agreed to create a joint platform with the participation of civil society and international organizations to defend human rights and monitor their observance in the Transnistrian region. This was announced by Chisinau's and Tiraspol's chief negotiators Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski at a video conference on the conclusion of the fourth round of 5+2 negotiations in Vienna today, Info-Prim Neo reports. Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov said a forum will be also created to provide an opportunity to civil society and media from Chisinau and Tiraspol to cooperate, interact and propose concrete confidence-building measures. Tiraspol's diplomacy chief Nina Stanski said that discussions are on-going on ensuring freedom of movement for people on both sides of the Nistru, on rail traffic issues, including timetabeling, and on other matters of common interest. The fourth round of negotiations was held on September 12 and 13 in Vienna. The next formal meeting is scheduled to take place in late November in Dublin. The 5+2 negotiations are held between Chisinau and Tiraspol as the conflicting sides, with the support of the OSCE, Russia and Ukraine as mediators, and the EU and the US as observers.
