Chisinau teachers will receive December salaries ahead of time

The employees of Chisinau pre-university education establishments will receive the salary for December in advance. The Chisinau Council decided to allocate about 10.4 million lei for the purpose. The decision was made on December 24. The teachers will get the December salaries by this yearend as the education institutions resume activity only on January 10, 2008. The resources will be allocated from the larger than planned revenues accumulated in the municipal budget for 2007 and from the saved allocations projected for education. The City Council will consider increasing the salaries of Chisinau teachers for 2008 by 20% while examining the draft municipal budget in second reading. Deputy mayor of Chisinau Mihai Furtuna told Info-Prim Neo earlier that the pay raises will be covered exclusively from the municipal budget and have nothing to do with the rises approved by the Government this year. The draft municipal budget for the next year provides for about 698 million lei for the municipal education establishments. This is about half of the municipal budget revenues. If teachers’ salaries are raised by 20%, the spending on education will increase by another 57-60 million lei.
