Teachers from 140 Chisinau schools came together at a conference to improve their competencies to counsel students to choose a career. During the event, Minister of Education Mihail Shleahtitski said the conference is aimed at spreading the advanced experience in career counseling, promoting the modern counseling methodology and at establishing cooperation relations between the family, school, state institutions and civil society so as to support the integration of graduates into the socioeconomic activity, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The students who go to secondary or post-secondary vocation education institutions must be sure that they made the right choice. From this perspective, career counseling is very important,” said the minister.
Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, head of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said the conference takes place yearly. “When in the secondary school, most of the students do not know where to continue their studies. Career counseling helps the students to find out more about vocational schools and colleges where they can study according to their abilities,” she stated.
Eugenia Starcea, head of the municipal Professional Orientation and Information Center, stated for Info-Prim Neo that the conference brought together school heads and deputy heads, teachers and psychologists. They discussed aspects of career counseling within four workshops – “Private Counseling”, “Group Counseling”, “Counseling of Parents”, and “Partnership between Institutions Involved in Career Counseling.” Career counseling centers are to be opened in every district to help the students choose the suitable profession.
The conference “Career Counseling – Modern Approach” was held at a Chisinau high school on May 5.
