Chisinau schools will be fully ready for new academic year, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb

The Chisinau schools are 70% ready for the new academic year, but will be fully ready by September 1, said the head of the General Division of Education Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the official, the economic and financial crisis affected the preuniversity education institutions. In 2000-2003, the Chisinau Municipal Council allocated about 25-27 million lei for current and extensive repair works, but during the last two years - only 20-21 million lei. “The Chisinau schools last year received only 13.5 million lei for repair works. The same sum was to be allotted this year, but a part of the local councilors demanded that the overdue sum for 2009 be allocated as well,” Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said. The Council freed 6.4 million lei late in July, not at the start of summer, when the repair works begin. However, at the start of August it provided another 2 million lei for repairing the roofs of schools damaged by storms and 2.7 million lei for current repair. “Some of the extensive repair works will continue in September. We hope the weather will allow us to finish them as we planned ,” Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said. Chisinau councilor Emil Gutu said the schools are a priority and the councilors should look for possibilities to allocate additional financing for these institutions. “We are now trying to identify additional financial resources to build canteens, gyms and other facilities,” he said. The most extensive repair works this year have been performed at the high schools “A. Pushkin”, “M. Kotsiubinski” and “N. Dadiani”. According to deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu, ten modern sports grounds with artificial lawns will be built in the near future. But the necessary sum of money has not been yet identified.
