Chisinau could put Romania’s foreign minister in difficulty at the Riga summit if it does not give up imposing restrictions on journalists as provided in the bill with amendments to the Broadcasting Code, Romanian expert George Scarlat said in the talk show “European horizon” on TVR-Moldova channel, IPN reports.
According to George Scarlat, the Romanian foreign minister assured that he will unconditionally support Moldova at the Riga summit, but Chisinau risks going to this summit with more black balls. “One of them is the removal of Renato Usatyi’s party from the electoral race several days before the parliamentary elections. If the restrictions stipulated in that bill are adopted, our minister will be put in difficulty,” he stated.
The expert expressed his disappointment with the bill to amend the Broadcasting Code drafted by the Moldovan lawmakers. “I ask myself if the European integration remained a priority for Moldova. I have the feeling that the Moldovan politicians do not understand the sensitivity of the issue of freedom of expression,” he said.
