The members of the Chisinau Council approved the new regulations concerning the allocation of financial assistance to socially deprived residents of Chisinau municipality during the 2013-2014 heating season by a majority of votes. Under the document, cold-month allowances will be paid to persons on monthly incomes lower than 1,700 lei, as opposed to 1,450 lei until now.
The applicants for cold-month allowances will have to present certificates concerning their monthly incomes from the Tax Inspectorate. The head of the Public Amenities Division Petru Gontea said that such a provision was necessary as the persons who earlier applied for financial assistance for the cold period provided incorrect information about their incomes.
About 34,000 families received cold-month allowances in the municipality of Chisinau during the 2012-2013 heating season. A sum of 100 million lei was allocated from the municipal budget for the purpose.
