An inhabitant of Chisinau aged 31 was arrested by the police for stealing 2 km of communications cable from a residential block situated in Buiucani district. He stole the cable in odder to sell it for scarp as it contains copper. The man faces a fine of 6,000 to 20,000 lei or up to four years in jail for theft, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the General Police Inspectorate, this is not the first offense committed by the man. Earlier, he served five years in prison for burglary, being released in 2007.
The man admitted that he stole communications cable eight times starting with June. The damage caused to SA Moldtelecom was assessed at about 9,000 lei.
