A 26-year-old Chisinau man was arrested on suspicion of having broken into at least five homes in the capital, from where he stole content valued at a total of 50,000 lei. The Chisinau General Police Commissariat (CGP) warns the city residents to strictly respect house safety measures to avoid such cases, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to preliminary data, the young man, who had been tried previously, operated in Botanica district during both day and night, when the owners weren’t home or were asleep. The suspect focused on apartments with easy to pick locks. According to victims, he stole jewelry, money, laptops, cameras, mobile phones and other goods. Then police started an investigation to recover the stolen things from those who bought them. The man is currently under arrests and charged with theft, which is punishable with a fine of 6,000 to 20,000 lei or four years in jail. CGP spokesman Adrian Jovmir told Info-Prim Neo that people should lock their doors even when they only go to the neighbors or exit for a short time. People are advised to be careful not to lose their keys or to allow them to be stolen, but if this happens, they should change the lock. Owners of ground floor apartments are warned against leaving the bathroom window open at night and recommended to install grids or alarm systems for the vulnerable windows. The police urge the people to call 902 whenever they see that such a crime is being committed.
