The deputy police chief of the Chisinau municipality, Petru Corduneanu, says that parks in the Moldovan capital are in a disastrous condition, this conclusion follows an inspection of green areas. He said that parks have become anti-sanitary places once the weather got warm and people willing joint roasted on the spit have a barbarian attitude towards nature. Corduneanu asked the municipal authorities to establish special places where population be allowed to organise picnics. In turn, the municipal authorities say that the parks will be cleaned up because this goal was impossible until now due to bad weather. The ad-interim mayor of Chisniau, Vasile Ursu, has asked the Association of Management of Green Areas to arrange special places for picnics in parks and to give wood to people willing to cook joint roasted on the spit. The head of the directorate for culture, Iulian Filip, considers that the lack of culture demonstrated by people is a consequence of shortage of cultural programmes. Filip called for drafting of a programme on arrangement of green areas, so that people who cannot afford holidays abroad enjoy possibility to rest in the city. The police have starting patrolling the parks. Policemen patrol the parks in the Botanica district on horses that the municipal authorities bought last autumn and trained them in the past months for this purpose. The horses cannot be taken to parks in other districts of the capital because the city hall did not purchase special equipment to carry them. According to Corduneanu, the patrols on horses will also watch the situation in the entertainment area in Vadul-lui-Voda. There are 7 parks, 11 forest parks and 4 public gardens in Chisinau.
