The Chisinau City Hall this year aims to repair four-five underground passages, including the one situated on the viaduct near Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 1, at a cost of 10 million lei, IPN reports.
Acting mayor Ruslan Codreanu said the underground passages will be cleaned and lit and the stairs will be repaired and outfitted with rams for persons with disabilities. The City Hall gave up establishing a public-private partnership and intends to execute the works independently.
A year ago, in January 2018, the then acting mayor Silvia Radu ordered to repair the underground passage located on the viaduct. A week later, the municipality published the list of eight underground pedestrian passages that were to be repaired in the summer of 2018, but nothing was done.
Last autumn, the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Vitalie Butucel said they will not manage to repair the planned passages by the end of the year, if only the one from the viaduct for which a project was designed.
This February, Ruslan Codreanu said the owners of the mall located near this passage expressed their readiness to renovate the passageway under a public-private partnership, but later gave up. The municipality designed the new passage and estimated the costs, but the partners refused to cooperate.
There are 20 underground pedestrian passages in the municipality of Chisinau. Twelve of these were transferred under the management of business entities.
