Chisinau Municipal Council to examine water prices

Interim Mayor Vasile Ursu requested on Monday, as part of the special session at the City Hall, that the issue concerning the state of “Apa-Canal Chisinau” company is included in the agenda of the next session of the Municipal Council of Chisinau. According to the Mayor, this time, the company should present real figures which would endorse the necessity of increasing the tariffs for water. According to the Mayor, previous requests of the water supplier haven’t been taken into consideration by the municipal councilors, because the leadership of ACC didn’t bring any calculations to the sessions, which would confirm the deplorable situation at the company and didn’t propose any concrete actions of redressing the situation. The Representative of the company, Mihai Golban, declared, as part of the session at the City Hall, that the price of 2.62 lei for a cubic meter of water doesn’t even cover the company’s expenses. He proposes as a solution a new issuance of shares, at a total cost of MDL 20 mln, for paying the debts to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, “Union Fenosa” company and “Moldova-Gaz” company. According to data provided by “Apa-Canal Chisinau” JSC, in the first 6 months of the current year, its income for the provided services was of MDL 140.8 mln, and expenses of MDL 168.5 mln. Today, the company loses income of about MDL 3 per each 2 cubic meters of water.
