Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) rejected on Tuesday, 28 February, to sell 10 buildings of the capital to certain private education institutions, which at the moment rent them.
Counsellors rejected completely to sell the buildings in spite of certain statements made by the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Victor Tvircun, at the meeting, resulting that rejecting the decision draft takes some risks and disadvantages for municipality. The minister said that one of the risks would be worsening of relations with certain countries, their institutions working in these buildings, or abroad it would be created the impression that private institutions in Chisinau are not agreed. He also noted that if these institutions cease their activity, as result of lack of building, about 500 teachers would have no job.
Before rejecting the draft, the interim mayor of the capital, Vasile Ursu, paid the attention of the counsellors over these buildings which previously were kindergartens, and further, if there are needed kindergartens, the capital will loose them and will not be able to build others. He proposed to address a letter to government where the municipal authorities require changing the legislation that these institutions work and rent these buildings. According to legislation, the interim mayor underlined, those 10 education institutions could not work without having their own headquarters.
