The meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, scheduled for September 25, didn’t take place. The councilors of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the “Our Party” (PPPN) and the Party of Communists (PCRM) left the hall after waiting in vain for the mayor of Chisinau and their colleagues from the Liberal Party for over 30 minutes. Shortly after these left, the Liberal and Liberal-Democratic councilors presented themselves. Even if the colleagues from the bloc “European People’s Platform - Iurie Leanca” (PPEM) were there, the pro-European majority coalition could not hold the meeting owing to the absence of quorum, IPN reports.
The head of the Party of Socialists Ion Ceban expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca was absent for so long. According to him, such behavior shows disrespect for the councilor and for the people too. “We are leaving this meeting in protest and will convene a new meeting of the Council by the votes of one third of the councilors, if one is not called by the mayor in the near future,” he stated.
“We will not tolerate the mayor’s defiant attitude. He called this extraordinary meeting for 12 noon and you see how many people are waiting for him here. It’s clear that Chirtoaca and the Liberal faction focus on the own interests, not on the people’s problems,” said Ilian Casu, of the PPPN, leaving the hall together with the Socialists.
The head of the PPEM’s faction Oazu Nantoi said that in the last meeting the alliance agreed that the meeting will start at 12 midday. “We disprove of such an attitude by the Liberal faction to the own commitments and of the fact that the meeting wasn’t announced three days beforehand. I ask considering our statement as the last warning to our colleagues as regards our participation in the Council’s meetings,” he stated.
The head of the Liberal faction Ion Cebanu said the fact that the Socialists left the meeting shows that they do not honor their obligations.
For his part, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca explained that he was asked by the colleagues from the Liberal Democratic Party to wait for them as they were late, noting that he also planned a series of meetings with officials for the whole day.
