Chisinau Municipal Council allotted 11,5 million lei to the Electric Transport Agency (RTEC) and 7,1 million lei to the Urban Bus Company (PUA). The decision was taken Monday, June 28, Info-Prim Neo reports. Communist councilor Valeri Pavlov opposed, saying these institutions received too much money. Independent councilor Oleg Cernei stressed CMC needed to know the full report about these agencies, to avoid allotting unnecessary funds. Christian-Democrat councilor Alexandru Corduneanu said that a plan of restoring the financial state should be elaborated. “We’d better give money for development plans, but not because the situation is critical”, he said. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca says RTEC and PUA income had increased since October 1, 2009, but maintenance costs have risen as well. However, financial subventions significantly dropped. Previously, the City Hall allotted 150 millions lei yearly. In 2010, the funding was reduced to 100 millions. Dorin Chirtoaca explained the difficult situation of PUA and RTEC. It proved that only 17,000 people out of 120,000 that traveled for free really needed this free traffic pass. 40,000 others preferred to receive money, while 63,000 were not entitled to benefit from the City Hall’s aid.
