Patrolling inspectors stopped motorists who broke the traffic rules in order to warn them about the dangers they face on the road. Within an operation of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, 50 drivers were stopped at the intersection of Stefan cel Mare Blvd. and Banulescu-Bodoni St in only half an hour. Inspector Nadejda Ursu, who patrolled the given sector, said the most frequent violations included the non-fastening of the seatbelt and speaking on the mobile phone while driving, IPN reports.

“The drivers consider that these violations are not serious, but a moment’s inattention can cost them life,” said Nadejda Ursu. The goal of the operation is to reduce the high number of road accidents.

The drivers stopped by the police explained that they didn’t fasten the seatbelt because they set off only several minutes ago. As to the phone conversations, they invoked emergencies.

The non-fastening of the seatbelt and speaking on the mobile phone while driving are punished with a fine of 300 to 400 lei and three penalty points. This time, the stopped drivers were only warned. The operation “Be attentive, don’t break the law, save my and your life” was performed in all the districts of Chisinau and will continue next week. The drivers also received by a deodorizer with the operation’s logo.
