Chisinau might remain without cultural institutions

The students of the Art School “Valeriu Poleacovshi” will organise events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the school in other places, because the building of the school is in a bad state. The situation is similar in the case of the Art School “Alexei Starcea” and the Art School “Sciusev”, interim head of the Culture Department (CD) Leonid Gorceac said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Gorceac told the session of the City Hall that the concert halls of “Valeriu Poleacov” are deteriorated and their use is prohibited for more than two years. All the petitions submitted to the City Hall and the explanations regarding the urgent need for repair works lacked answers, Gorceac stated. At the same time, Gorceac says, of those 36 libraries located in the municipality, several administrated by “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” Municipal Library need repairs. The headquarters of the Municipal Library need repairs too. The problems of the Culture Department can be solved with support from local authorities. The reparation works worth MDL 365 thousand done at the International Centre “Mihai Eminescu” at the order of the former interim mayor Vasile Ursu were not paid yet, thus the City Hall still has to pay the executor. At the same time the Museum of Chisinau can not be put into operation because of the low quality of repair works, Gorceac affirms. Education in the field of arts is provided by 10 schools, arts and graphic arts schools, 5 of them being administrated by the local public administration with the support of the Culture Department and other 5, with 449 teachers and 3351 students, are administrated by the Culture Department.
