The Chisinau Mayor’s Office has formally rejected the proposed route of the annual LGBT march scheduled for June 19.
Mayor Ion Ceban, an open opponent of the march, said that other events planned around that time in the city will cause traffic detours which will pass through the street requested by the organizers.
“Considering that the representatives of the central authorities are the biggest supporters of LGBT people, I suggest that they hold their events in the buildings of the Parliament, the Presidential Palace and the Government”, the mayor wrote on Facebook.
In 2012, the Moldovan Parliament adopted the Law on Ensuring Equality by which sexual minorities are protected alongside other groups.
