The Centru District Court has quashed the administrative lawsuit questioning the legality of decisions issued by Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca on authorizing meetings in downtown Chisinau in late 2007, Info-Prim Neo reports, as informed by a communique of the PR Direction of the City Hall. The court thus rejected the application of the Police General Commissariat, ruling that the mayor’s decisions had been issued in accordance with the law and with the International Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms. The judgment may be appealed in the Chisinau Court of Appeals within ten days. General Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, when in the court, has appreciated the fairness of the judge’s decision, mentioning that in making it, they took into account the fact that the provisions of the international treaties prevail over the national legislation in Moldova. The conflict between the local authorities from Chisinau and the municipal police peaked in late 2007 during the so-called “Christmas Trees War”.
