Mayor of the Municipality of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca intends to inform the law-enforcement bodies about the corruption cases in which civil servants from the City Hall are involved. Dorin Chirtoaca told the session of the City Hall that he was informed by his colleagues and citizens that a signature of a deputy-head of a Department costs EUR 200, and the intermediaries, take USD 3-4 thousand for the documents necessary for the construction of a balcony or additional constructions. Secretary of the Chisinau Municipal Council Vladimir Sarban advised the Mayor General to inform the law-enforcement bodies about such cases, but he said that the situation will remain the same and it is possible that the Mayor himself will be suspected of committing offences. The Mayor said that at present he can not oblige the citizens to inform the law-enforcement bodies about the corruption cases because “the society is too scared” and there were cases when due to false petitions “several persons were arrested without being guilty”. According to him, the situation can be improved by immediately solving the problems of the citizens. “If the problem is solved as a result of the first request, than the citizens will know that their problems can be easily solved and will not be tempted to bribe the civil servants”, the Mayor mentioned. “I want to build a sound institution, which would not fear anything or anyone and which can not be blackmailed in any way”, the Mayor said, mentioning that the civil servants will have higher incomes only when the society will be more prosperous and the budget will have more money. “Until then we have the responsibility to create the mood necessary in economy to be able to speak about prosperity”.
