Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca instructed the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport to make an approach to the Ministry of Education and ask that the Baccalaureate exams be held in the institutions where the students study, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the regulations concerning the organization of Baccalaureate exams, the candidates will take the tests at external assessment centers. “It was agreed that the students should be spared from stress and other worries during the exams. I do not understand why another decision was taken and why they did not consult with the education divisions and high school directors,” Dorin Chirtoaca said at Monday's meeting of the City Hall. The mayor stressed the parents and students filed numerous complaints and the Ministry of Education should take their suggestions into account. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said they had discussions about the method of organizing the exams with officials of the Ministry, but their proposals were not taken account of. She added that the negotiations will go on. Minister of Education Leonid Bujor said earlier it was decided that the Baccalaureate exams will be taken at external assessment centers so as to avoid cheating and other violations committed the previous years. By 220 students will take exams at one external assessment center. The exams will be held in classrooms, not festivity halls and gymnasiums as last year.
