Mayor Ion Ceban is accusing the Environment Agency of blocking the disposal of construction waste and waste resulting from urban sanitation at the municipal dumpsite on Calea Iesilor St. According to the mayor, the Agency’s inspectors today closed off the site.
Once a limestone quarry, the dumpsite has been used by the municipal sanitation company Edilitate for a while now. According to Mayor Ceban, the Agency has earlier “blocked every attempt” to find a new site.
In October 2021, the municipality and the Environment Agency agreed to carry out a feasibility study on the disposal of construction waste. Completed in May 2022, the study was presented publicly in June at a meeting attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and the Environment Agency, among others. It has found that the quarry can be safely used for the purpose of disposing such waste.
But the bureaucratic process of converting the feasibility study into a permit can take a long time, says the mayor, that is why the City Hall has requested the Ministry of Environment’s permission to continue the disposal.
