Chisinau lyceums to be further called “theoretic”

The Government decided on Wednesday, June 21, that the lyceums of Chisinau should bear the title "theoretic", excluding in this way the word "Moldovan", stipulated by a Government decision of December 26, 1990. Thus, the Moldovan-French Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi” will be called the Theoretic Lyceum “Gheorghe Asachi”. The same changes were operated for the Moldovan-English Lyceum „Ion Creanga”, the Moldovan-English Lyceum „Mircea Eliade”, the Moldovan-Italian Lyceum „Dante Alighieri”, the Moldovan-German Lyceum „Mihail Kogalniceanu”. The Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Victor Tvircun, said that the amendments to the mentioned decision were operated due to the petitions coming, during past months, from of deputies and citizens, and in order to adjust this decision to provisions of the Education Law of 1995. The changes shall be published in the “Official Monitor of Moldova”. In May, a group of pupils of the Lyceum “Ghorghe Asachi” have protested against this change, the request of the branch ministry, of the institutions title Romanian-French Lyceum into Moldovan-French, damaging the new installed frontispiece. As result, those four pupils of „Gheorghe Asachi” were instituted penal proceedings for „group hooliganism”.
