Chisinau local authorities brace for snow during holidays

The Chisinau municipal enterprises say there are no reasons to worry for drivers. The roads will be dusted from snow during the holidays. General mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoacă told the staff meeting Monday, the snow cleaners will work 24 hours a day in case of heavy snowfalls, if necessary, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Although we have 4 times less equipment than needed, the local public administration has the necessary capacity to face the snow,” the mayor said. According to the head of the Transport Directions, Veaceslav Tarna, first the main streets will be cleaned from snow, on which the public transport runs. “It will be hard to clean from snow the courts of blocks. There is no enough equipment to cover those 8 million square meters that may be covered by snow,” Tarna specified. There should be some 600 snow cleaning machines in Chisinau, but there are only 140. The authorities recommend drivers to put their winter tires on, to drive cautiously, to observe the traffic regulation, and ti use the public transport in case of heavy snowfalls.
