A lawyer from Chisinau aged 62 was arrested for 72 hours on suspicion that he trafficked in children for sexual exploitation, IPN reports. According to the police, the suspect profited from the socially vulnerable situation of a minor girl from Calarasi district, sheltered her in his apartment and had sexual relations with her there.
The girl said she had sexual relations with the man first in the autumn of 2016, when she was 13. The man gave her 400 lei. Since then she regularly left home and came to Chisinau.
The minor, who is from a socially deprived family, was placed in a specialized center in Chisinau, where she is offered psychological assistance. The local police officer is to have discussions with the girl’s parents so as to integrate her into the family. As she often left home, most probably she didn’t attend school and has to now catch up.
During searches at the lawyer’s home, the police seized photos of the suspect with other girls, sexual toys, a camera and a computer. Measures are taken to see if the lawyer sexually exploited other children too. He faces 15 to 20 years in jail or life.
