Chisinau lakes not to be swum in

Although the Chisinau Municipal Authorities have not banned to swim in Chisinau’s lakes, the deputy head of the Municipal Enterprise responsible for managing parks “Spatii verzi,” Galina Leahu, has told Info-Prim Neo that it is not recommendable to swim in Chisinau’s lakes. According to data offered by Tudor Puiu, an official responsible for the environment in Chisinau, the samples of water taken in April and May from the lakes around Chisinau, show that the norm of germs is exceeded. “The lakes have not been cleaned for 20 years, the mud is higher than the water, and it contains different bacteria. Certainly swimming is very dangerous you can get severe diarrheic and skin diseases,” Tudor Puiu says. According to him, the beaches are not duly prepared. The sand on many beaches needs to be changed. “The showers and the booths to exchange clothes are ok, the safeguards stations do not have the necessary medicines and need to be repaired,” says Tudor Puiu. Galina Leahu says the situation is not so grave. “Spatii verzi” resolves the environmental claims, but the financial situation does not allow us repair the safeguards stations, and the Municipal Council is to endorse the purchase of the sand for the Vadul-lui-Voda beach.” Galina Leahu assures that everything will be ready till June 15.
