Mayor General of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca ordered connecting the whole city to the heating system starting with October 21, given that the weather is expected to grow colder this weekend. The announcement was made in the October 20 meeting of officials of Chisinau divisions and services. An order to this effect wasn’t yet made, IPN reports.
The mayor said the residents of the city should be connected to the heating system by Thursday or Friday, when the temperatures are projected to go down. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the gas company Moldovagaz for the first time asked paying for gas in advance. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, this action forms part of the punitive measures taken by Russia at regional level, with Moldovagaz obeying Russia’s gas giant Gazprom. “If they ask for money in advance, we will also connect our people to the heating system in advance,” he stated.
The mayor noted that the number of persons with debts for gas decreased significantly and only 2,764 apartments with debts of over 20,000 lei each will not be connected to the supply of heat immediately.
Dorin Chirtoaca said that some of the schools can ask to be connected later given that the students will soon go on vacation. But the final decision is to be taken by the directors of the education institutions.
The previous heating season started on November 12 and ended on April 18.
