Chisinau hosts World Congress of Eminescologists

The sixth World Congress of Eminescologists started at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova in Chisinau on September 4. The event brought together Eminescologists from Moldova, Romania, China, Italy, Turkey, Ukraine and other countries and will continue at the International Academic Center “Eminescu” on September 5, IPN reports.

Academician Mihai Cimpoi, the Congress’ chair, said the agenda this year includes two subjects:  Eminescu’s writings and his translated works.

“The works of Eminescu are of an absolutely indisputable topicality. They tell us about the European idea, the unity of universal culture, European conception and problems faced now in justice and education and by the Romanians abroad,” stated Mihai Cimpoi.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said Eminescu’s works, view and style of work are an example of civil conduct, patriotism and love for the homeland. “Eminescu teachers us a lesson of patriotism and we should learn it,” stated the Premier.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said the subject of Eminescu’s writings made her ponder. “What would have happened if people like Mihai Cimpoi wouldn’t have been born here and these wouldn’t made effort for the generations of the 60s-70s, those who were brought up at Soviet schools, to understand who we are and where we come from, said the minister.

Among those who spoke about how Eminescu is known in the countries of the world were: Dr. Giuseppe Mantitta – “Mihai Eminescu e la letteratura italiana”; Xu Wende – “Eminescu and China”; Laura Hant – “Eminescu in Vienna”; Dumitru Copillu-Copillin – “New translations from Eminescu’s works” etc.

On September 5, the Congress will continue with a series of launches of books, such as “Chronological Dictionary Mihai Eminescu” by Saluc Horvat; “Eminescu and the German mind” by Dumitru Pasat and “Anniversary volume Mihai Cimpoi-75”, coordinated by Alexandru Burlacu.
