The Tourism Industry Symposium in Chisinau brings together experts from nine states who will present the development prospects of the tourism industry centered on global tendencies and good practices in the field. In the opening remarks, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said the experience of foreign professionals is important. “Moldova cannot be anything and everywhere. Uniqueness and authenticity are the most important qualities for us. What the Republic of Moldova can offer is so individual that this uniqueness can become extremely attractive to global tourists,” stated Sergiu Prodan, being quoted by IPN.

The minister noted that the wine industry is very attractive and must be further developed, but the focus should be also placed on the creativeness of citizens, on cultural events, hospitality and the special cuisine.

USAID Mission Director for Moldova Jeff Bryan said that he highly appreciates cooperation in the tourism sector with the Republic of Moldova. “Together we worked miracles, especially in the wine industry of the Republic of Moldova, but we cannot stop here. The Republic of Moldova has great potential,” stated Jeff Bryan.

Angela Brașoveanu, adviser to the President on cultural issues, cited a passage from the message transmitted by Maia Sandu. “Moldova entered the top destinations that deserve to be discovered and that offer the tourists special experiences. The development of sustainable, resilient and inclusive tourism is a global desideratum pursued by the World Tourism Organization. This is also our desideratum at national level.” She went on to add that Moldova, which is increasingly known abroad for its results in all the areas, will become more appreciated on its path of European integration.

World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27 under the aegis of the World Tourism Organization. In the Republic of Moldova, this day is marked through two big events – the Tourism Industry Symposium and the Gala of Tourism Excellence Awards.

The symposium is entitled “Resilient and Sustainable Development despite Challenges”. This year’s edition will set the tone for discussions about the current situation in the tourism industry in the country and the region, potential development directions, actions that can stimulate and support the process of developing a strong, sustainable industry open to innovation.
