The second Innovation in Governance Forum held in Chisinau brought together practitioners from Sweden, the UK and Moldova, who shared their experience in reshaping the model by which public services are provided and public policies are drawn up, with the involvement of the people, IPN reports.
There were presented methods by which the governments of the world created social innovation labs to be able to deal with challenges in an efficient way, by using information technology, and in response to the crises and increased budget austerity in a number of states. “We are at the beginning of the road in implementing innovative approaches to reform the public services and work out public policies. That’s why the need to learn about the successful practices of the more advanced governments in this field, by adjusting them to the particularities of our country, is an imperative of the time,” said Sergiu Ceaus, deputy secretary general of the Government.
“The public institutions must learn to speak the same language, while innovation is the language of the future, which can align the outdated institutional model with the requirements of the 21st century. An innovative Government means an intelligent economy that can support our living standards, the better use of public money, the involvement of people through social innovation and a healthier life,” stated the executive director of the e-Government Center Iurie Turcanu.
Ulziisuren Jamsran, UN Women Country Representative to Moldova, in the name of the UN country team said that in this difficult moment for Moldova, the restoration of the people’s confidence in the governmental institutions is of extraordinary importance. “The improvement of quality and efficiency of public services and policies and their bringing closer to the needs of the people by innovation can have a great contribution in terms of increased confidence. The UN is glad to support the development of a culture of innovation in the government and the continuity of this forum demonstrates our commitment,” stated Ulziisuren Jamsran.
The event involved over 80 participants, officials of the Moldovan Government, public servants, representatives of civil society and of Moldova’s development partners.
The forum was organized by the State Chancellery, the e-Government Center and UNDP with financial support from the Embassy of the UK, the Embassy of Sweden and a mobile phone carrier.
