The leader of the Christian-democrat faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), the poet Alexandru Corduneanu, became the capital’s deputy mayor in charge of social affairs, Info-Prim Neo reports. Interim mayor Veaceslav Iordan recommended Corduneanu within the CMC session on Thursday, February 1. With 28 votes of the communists, Christian-democrats and social-democrat faction, Alexandru Corduneanu has been appointed to the deputy mayor office. “Moldova Noastra” Alliance faction and the Social Action Bloc abstained. Earlier, Alexandru Corduneanu complained about the state of the “cultural affairs”, because a strategy “in what concerns the Romanian cultural phenomenon” was lacking. The CMC Christian democrat leader said that the PPCD faction might come up with numerous proposals in this respect, “which will be hard to refuse”. When asked whether the faction would manage to implement its ambitious plans till the local elections are held, Corduneanu said that “PPCD doesn’t live from poll to poll. We see things in perspectives, including urban design, overcoming traffic jams, and people’s perception of feeling at home”, Corduneanu specified. The cited source added that there should be a participatory mechanism in Chisinau, which would include the creation of Residential Districts’ Councils. Via these councils a permanent dialogue between the local public administration and the capital’s inhabitants would be established. Within the frameworks of the same session, the mandate of the communist councillor, Diana Prepelita has been annulled, at her request.
