The requests to reestablish the direct telephone connection between the two banks of the Nistru made by the population to the authorities remained without a response. All the attempts made by the official Chisinau in this respect failed. A solution is unlikely to be identified in the near future. The persons who call their relatives in the Transnistrian region do it through international operators and the charges are exorbitant.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Alexandru Oleinic said the discussions with the Transnistrian authorities continue. “We try to reach a compromise with the Transnistrian phone operators, but the authorities there do not want to engage in serious negotiations,” the minister said.
“These problems appeared during the previous government. It is very complicated and regrettable that the people suffer the consequences.”
Moldtelecom commercial director Ion Rosca told the Agency that until the Transnistrian company Interdnestrcom is not included in the State Register of Moldova, there is no legal framework for signing contracts between Moldtelecom and Interdnestrcom as the last one is not recognized. “Even if we want to discuss with them, we cannot do it. Thus, the people use the international, not direct phone connection. We cannot say when the problem will be solved as the decisions are made at the political level,” Ion Rosca said.
The direct telephone connection between the two banks of the River Nistru was suspended in 2003.
