The Chisinau Electric Transport Company was empowered by the municipal councilors to purchase two articulated trolleybuses that were made in 2014 and weren’t used to transport passengers from an Italian company. The draft decision was approved in the March 30 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council by 42 votes in favor. The value of the trolleybuses is €50,000 each, IPN reports.
In the meeting, the company’s director Dorin Chernyi said the trolleybuses have a transportation capacity of 160 passengers, which means they are high-capacity vehicles. “Compared with an old trolleybus, these units of transport consume by 25% less electricity. They are outfitted with surveillance cameras, air conditioning systems, access ramps for persons with special needs, low ceiling and are a type of next-generation transport,” related Dorin Chernyi.
He noted that the trolleybuses are almost new and covered a distance of 200 km only. Furthermore, they have a Diesel engine and can also run when the lines are damaged based on battery.
The Chisinau Electric Transport Company has 392 trolleybuses, 18 of which are articulated. Six articulated units ZiU and IuMZ were bought in 1995-1996, having been used for over 25 years.
