Three persons were arrested in the morning of April 15 in criminal cases started by the National Anticorruption Center this January over a corruption scheme with driver’s licenses. The director of a driving school of Chisinau and two of his inferiors were arrested following searches carried out at the homes and offices of these. They are suspected of forming part of a broad scheme involving functionaries of the Public Services Agency, driving instructors and other intermediaries, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the suspects acted in complicity and gained money illegally for arranging exams and issuing driver’s licenses. Over 40 persons allegedly obtained driver’s licenses without being assessed in accordance with the existing regulations for sums that varied between €500 and €2,000.
In January, anticorruption officers carried out over 30 searches. A driving instructor from Orhei and later an employee of the Public Services Agency were arrested and are now under investigation. The persons suspected of influence peddling, active and passive corruption face a maximum jail term of ten years, a fine and ban on holding public posts for a particular period of time.
