The number of suspect cases of AH1N1 pandemic influenza in the municipality of Chisinau decreased continuously during the last few weeks. The Health Division's head Luminita Suveica said this is mainly due to the fact that a large number of persons got vaccinated, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The development of the epidemic flu situation shows the second wave of AH1N1 flu can be avoided,” Luminita Suveica said at Monday's meeting of the Chisinau City Hall.
About 90,000 persons have been vaccinated in the municipality of Chisinau to date. The medical institutions are waiting for the vaccine for children. The children will be vaccinated at medical centers and schools only after the parents give their consent.
The head of the Municipal Center of Preventive Medicine Iurie Panzaru said the number of flu cases has declined from 1,500-1,700 to 800 a week .
Vasile Sohotski, deputy director of the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine, told Info-Prim Neo that the second wave of AH1N1 flu is expected at the end of March. He said it will be more acute and infection can be avoided only by vaccination.
