A delegation composed of representatives of the Chisinau Municipal Council and of the City Hall, including deputy mayor of Chisinau Lucia Culev and councillors Corina Fusu and Gheorghe Brega, set off for Iasi on Saturday morning to take part in the City Day there.
According to Lucia Culev, the delegation will not have a very tight programme. It will probably not manage to participate in the Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iasi. The Patriarch of Romania, His Holiness Daniel will officiate at the Liturgy on Sunday morning. The delegation will probably return to the country to take part in the Service that will be held at the Nativity Cathedral on the City Day.
The Day of Chisinau and the Day of Iasi are celebrated on the same day, October 14, when the Christians observe the Protection of the Mother of God feast according to the old calendar and the Saint Pious Parascheva according to the new calendar.
The holidays in Iasi are taking place between October 6 and 28. The most important event is the Day of Saint Pious Parascheva, Moldova’s patron saint. Each year, thousands of people go on a pilgrimage to Iasi in this period to worship the relics of the saint.
