The situation of a week ago, when the Chisinau Municipal Council could not hold a meeting, repeated on October 2. Only the councilors of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the “Our Party” (PPPN), the Party of Communists (PCRM) and a councilor of the bloc “European People’s Party of Moldova - Iurie Leanca” (PPEM) presented themselves at the meeting convened at the request of 1/3 of the Chisinau councilors. The Socialists gave speeches from the rostrum in the meeting hall, making accusations against functionaries of the City Hall, IPN reports.

The head of the Socialist faction Ion Ceban said that both the mayor of Chisinau and the Liberal councilors showed again disrespect for the people because the agenda of the meeting included acute problems faced by the residents of the capitol city. As the functionaries do not come to meetings and the situation in Chisinau is disastrous, on October 5 they will set up a platform near the City Hall for the people to state their problems there.

Ion Ceban also said that the local councilors of the Party of Socialists decided not to collect the allowances of 2,000 lei per meeting so as to avoid all kinds of speculations. The Socialist councilors leveled criticism about the constructions in Chisinau, admission to nursery schools and the remuneration of civil servants and demanded that a number of functionaries should be dismissed.

Contacted by IPN, the head of the Liberal faction Ion Cebanu said the alliance’s Board will meet to convene a new meeting of the Council and they will not come when the Socialists call meetings. “They are slightly hypocritical as they went out when we convened a meeting. Now they say they want another meeting. When were they right: then or now?” asked the councilor.

In the June 14, 2015 local elections, the PSRM won 19 seats in the Chisinau Council, the Liberal Party – 17 seats, the bloc “PPEM – Iurie Leanca” – six seats, the  PPPN – three seats, the PCRM – three seats, the Liberal Democratic Party – two seats, while the  Democratic Party – one seat.
