The Chisinau councilors have again failed in their March 12 sitting to approve the structures of the electoral offices of the polling stations in the municipality. After four hours of debates, the councilors from the Liberal Party (PL), the Moldova Noastra Alliance and the Liberal Democratic Party left the session hall, Info-Prim Neo reports.
They accused the councilors remaining to work of promoting other persons than the ones proposed by district offices to those positions. Later the session chairman, Pavel Caba, the leader of the AMN faction, stated he would not go against the will of his faction.
The sitting ended due to lack of quorum. The councilors from the other factions decided to convene a new sitting at 9 p.m. on Thursday.
A failed attempt to select the compositions of the electoral offices happened on Tuesday, March 10. The councilors failed to reach agreement, since a fair amount of the people proposed for the polling station offices are supporters or even representatives of the political parties running in the race. Some councilors were unhappy with the elderly candidates or with the ones lacking due training to be poll workers.
Under the Election Code, the electoral offices are formed of 5-11 members, 3 of whom are proposed by local councils, and the rest of them -- by political parties in the Parliament, proportionally with the number of seats. The candidates to be proposed by local councils shall not be party members. The Chisinau Municipal Council should approve the lists at least 20 days before the election day, that is March 15.
