The human rights situation on the left bank of the Nistru and in Bender municipality remains difficult and worrisome, said the Bureau for Reintegration Policies shows. The Bureau condemns the serious human rights violations by representatives of Tiraspol in the context of signals regarding the amplification of persecution actions against citizens whose opinions do not coincide with the position of the Transnistrian leaders, IPN reports.

According to the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, freedom of expression has been violated even more grossly since March 2020, when Tiraspol approved an alleged strategy to combat the so-called “extremism”. As a result, it initiated the imprisonment of citizens for simply expressing their own opinion on the processes taking place in the region. In the territory that is not controlled by the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova, citizens who express their view about the outbreak of the war in Ukraine or the presence of foreign troops, as well as civic activists who report human rights abuses committed by representatives of the unconstitutional bodies, are also repressed.

Illegally detained based on decisions by so-called courts of law, these people are subjected to disastrous conditions, inhuman and degrading treatment, endangering their health and life. Through the communication channel existing at the level of political representatives, the unconditional release of unjustly imprisoned citizens was demanded. The foreign partners were asked to intervene through all the available levers in individual cases reported, while the law enforcement agencies were requested to carry out investigations in accordance with the national legislation, reads a post by the Bureau.
