Mayor of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca classed the blocking of traffic on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard as illegal and as an act showing disrespect for the residents of Chisinau. He requested the City Hall’s Legal Assistance Division to prepare a requisition for being filed to the municipal Prosecutor’s Office. He also asked the municipal services to calculate the damage they sustained as a result of this blockage so as to seek damages in court by a common lawsuit, IPN reports.

In the October 12 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and subdivisions, the deputy head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Vitalie Butucel said the blocking of traffic on Stefan cel Mare Blvd was a surprise for the local authorities as the protest wasn’t announced. The public transport had to be diverted onto adjoining streets. As a result, traffic jams appeared on particular road sections.

Head of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company Gheorghe Morgoci said that owing to the blockage, the trolleybuses formed rows along the streets from Centru district up to Buiucani district. The trolleybuses running on the main artery of the capital city were diverted to Bucuresti, Kogalniceanu and other streets. Additional costs are incurred owing to jamming and the units of transport are behind schedule. The director of the Chisinau Urban Bus Company Iacob Capcelea said the buses running on routes experience the same problems.

The section of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd between Serghei Lazo and Banulescu-Bodoni streets was blocked by sympathizers of the “Our Party” and the Party of Socialists, who protest in the square before the Parliament Building. Owing to the traffic jams, the people reached workplaces with delay this morning.
