The heavy shower on Tuesday caused havoc in Chisinau, with the districts of Râșcani and Ciocana being the worst hit. Almost 90 trees were downed by the high winds, with roofs and vehicles being damaged, streets being flooded and drainage channels being blocked due to the large quantities of rainwater, IPN reports.
“There were damaged many roofs, cars. Many trees were downed, rooted out, while basements of apartment buildings were flooded. I want to thank each division, the officials of district head’s offices and all those who became involved. Work started with the clearing of streets and securing of areas that are connected especially to electricity,” said mayor Ion Ceban.
A sum of 2.5 million lei will be allocated first from the municipal reserve fund for removing the damage gauged initially. The municipal commission for exceptional situations will be convened to assess the needs of the municipality and to inform the central authorities about them.
The mayor warned the citizens to be cautious on the streets and in courtyards until the municipal services deal with the reported incidents.
Over 450 calls from people who informed about problematic situations were made to the municipal Central Dispatcher’s Office on 022 22-22-67 or 022 22-26-04 so far.
