There are now ten Ukrainian refugees at the temporary placement center opened at the Municipal Clinical Ftiziopneumology Hospital in Chisinau. These were accommodated in a separate building where there are no patients with tuberculosis and, therefore, there are no risks of becoming infected, the chief health officer of the capital city Boris Gîlca stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services. The comment was made after the ombudsman asked to close the given placement center. According to the municipality, the Ombudsman was misled, IPN reports.

Boris Gîlca said the Ftiziopneumology Hospital has three buildings. There are no patients in one of them at present. Before housing the refugees there, the areas were disinfected. The assertions that the persons can become infected with TB or COVID-19 are deceptive.

As they are few in number, the ten refugees will be transferred to other placement centers. The center at the Ftiziopneumology Hospital will be closed by April 1.

The Ombudsman’s Office last week requested to immediately close the temporary refugee center opened at the Ftiziopneumology Hospital in Chisinau, arguing the medical institutions serve another purpose. The Office said the refugees need places where they could benefit from social assistance rather than medical assistance and should not be accommodated in a place that can pose threats to the refugees and can limit access to medical services.
