“We will not accept the statement informing about the staging of the LGBT march in the capital city on June 18,” mayor general Ion Ceban stated in the weekly meeting of officials of municipal services. He noted that the public transport will run as usual on București St and on other streets along which representatives of sexual minorities intend to march.

Ion Ceban said the Parliament Building, the Government Building and other institutions are appropriate venues for holding this march so as not to disrupt public transport in the capital city or other activities. He noted that there is no need to propagate such parades, behaviors and attitudes. “I’m a defender of the rights to work, study and any other aspects referring to everyday life, but without the propagation of pseudo-values among children, families,” stated the mayor.

For their part, representatives of the sexual minorities said that the e Moldova Pride parade is one of the most important events of the year for the LGBT+ community. “Each year we choose a theme related to a problem faced by the members of LGBT+ in Moldova. This year we decided that it’s time to speak about the last right we do not yet enjoy: the right to marriage. If there are persons who say that the time is not opportune or that society is not ready, it means that time has come to prepare it. In an advanced, mature and democratic society, as I would like to see Moldovan society, all the problems are discussed and Moldova Pride creates space for this dialogue,” posted Angelica Frolov, coordinator of the Lobby & Advocacy Program of GENDERDOC-M Center.

The 22nd Festival of the LGBT+ Community in Moldova “Moldova Pride” was announced for June 12-18.
