The works to demolish the Gaudeamus Cinema, which is 1,007.5 square meters in area, are executed legally, the Chisinau City Hall said in a press release issued after the press earlier today reported that the building’s roof was dismantled, IPN reports.
The municipality said the building situated at 4 Vasile Alecsandri St has been privately owned since 2004. At the request of the business entity that owns this, the Chisinau City Hall issued an authorization for demolishing the construction on August 19, 2016. The given administrative document was challenged in court by representatives of civil society.
On September 20, 2017, he court rejected the lawsuit, ruling that the demolition authorization was issued legally. On February 27, 2018, the City Hall issued an urbanism certificate for designing the zonal urbanistic plan for the given plot on which a residential complex is to be erected.
The elected mayor of Chisinau Andrei Nastase today demanded that deputy mayors Nistor Grozavu and Ruslan Codreanu should intervene and stop the works to demolish the Gaudeamus Cinema. He said he tried for several times to contact officials in charge of the City Hall, but no one answered the phone.
