The City Day of Chisinau will be celebrated in Reggio Emilia too, an Italian city twinned with Moldova’s capital. The festivities will be organised by a local association of Moldovan natives called “Mihai Eminescu”. “There, thousands of kilometres away from home, we are still Romanians and it is important for us to keep our national identity”, the association’s president Tudor Grosu told Info-Prim Neo after he met with Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. He said the local authorities pledged support to the association. According to Tudor Grosu, even though not all the Moldovan natives living in Reggio Emilia hail from Chisinau, the City Day is representative for the entire Moldova and can become the Day of all the Romanians originating from Moldova and currently living in the Italian city. The Cultural Association Mihai Eminescu also asked the City Hall for financial support in organising festivities the next year, too. The Association Mihai Eminescu in Reggio Emilia, founded this spring, brings together 50 members, natives of Moldova, and hundreds of other supporters. Reggio Emilia is home to a total of 5 thousand Romanian ethnics from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Western Banat.
